The law makes the liquidator (estate executor) personally liable for unpaid taxes if assets are distributed without the government certificates. Our mandate covers the three angles that matter:
Final federal and Quebec returns, optional separate returns that reduce tax, T3 and TP-646 estate returns, tax slips for the heirs.
Federal clearance certificate (TX19) and Quebec certificate authorizing distribution (MR-14.A): prepared from day one, requested as soon as the notices of assessment arrive.
Spousal rollovers, principal residence, separate returns, estate losses: every relief provided by law is checked, systematically.
The package is confirmed in writing after a free 15-minute discovery call. The fee confirmed in writing is the fee billed. If an undisclosed element appears during the mandate, a written amendment is proposed before we continue.
When needed, at posted rates: unfiled prior year ($375 per year) · additional separate return ($350) · T3 and TP-646 for an additional year ($850) · additional property ($350) · additional meeting ($250). Every extra is announced before the work is done, never after.
Free, 15 minutes. You describe the situation, we confirm the package and the exact fee, in writing.
Signatures and government authorizations: everything goes out the same day. That is what saves weeks of waiting.
Final, separate and estate returns: we prepare, you approve, we file.
As soon as the notices of assessment arrive, the TX19 and MR-14.A requests go out. We handle the government follow-ups for you.
Certificates in hand, you distribute safely, with the complete tax summary for your final accounting.
Two rules drive the entire timeline of a Quebec estate:
Distributing assets without the federal clearance certificate (TX19) and Quebec's certificate authorizing distribution (MR-14.A) makes the liquidator personally liable for unpaid taxes, up to the value distributed. Only exception: urgent expenses, up to $12,000. Our process is built around this rule.
Recognition of the liquidator at Revenu Québec: up to 60 days. Legal representative at the CRA: about 6 weeks. Certificates: up to 4 months. That is why our authorizations go out the day of the first meeting and every request is followed up systematically: nothing ever waits on our side.
Not ready to call us yet? Start with the guide (currently in French). In plain language:
Because you are already living with enough uncertainty. The flat fee is possible because our practice is focused on estates: the work is mapped, tooled and systematic. The fee confirmed on the discovery call is the fee that gets billed.
The estate, like the other liquidation expenses. Invoices are addressed to the estate and payable from its account.
Our work moves fast; the real critical path is government processing times (authorizations: 4 to 8 weeks; certificates: up to 4 months). That is exactly why everything goes out on day one and why we follow up relentlessly with Revenu Québec and the CRA.
It is frequent and planned for: additional estate returns are billed at the posted rate of $850 per taxation year. You know the total cost in advance.
Yes, gladly: the notary keeps the legal side, we deliver the tax side, and they receive copies at key milestones. If your estate requires probate or a notarized deed, we refer you to your notary or a partner notary.
No. Everything can be done remotely (video calls, electronic signatures, secure document upload), anywhere in Quebec. In the Eastern Townships, in-person meetings are also possible.
At minimum, the deceased's final return, federal (T1) and Quebec (TP-1). Depending on the file: up to three optional separate returns that often reduce tax, then the estate's trust returns (T3 federal, TP-646 Quebec) for each year the estate earns income before the final distribution.
Death between January 1 and October 31: April 30 of the following year. Death in November or December: 6 months after the date of death. Special rules apply if the deceased or their spouse ran a business. Filing late brings penalties and interest, which we help limit.
The clearance certificate (TX19, CRA) and the certificate authorizing the distribution of property (MR-14.A, Revenu Québec) confirm that the taxes of the deceased and of the estate are paid. Distributing without them makes the liquidator personally liable for unpaid taxes, up to the value distributed. Getting them quickly is the core of our mandate.
At Succession Privée: $1,200 plus taxes (simple compliance), $2,800 plus taxes (standard estate, the most common) or on quote from $8,000 (complex estate). The exact package is confirmed in writing after a free 15-minute discovery call, and that is the amount billed.
Succession Privée is the estate service of Fiscalité Privée, a firm founded by Jean-Samuel Fortier. Our team supports Quebec business owners and individuals in their tax decisions; the estate practice became the heart of the firm for a simple reason: it is where entire families find themselves alone in front of two governments, at the worst possible time.
Every file is handled by our team at Succession Privée, with tools built specifically for Quebec estates: day-one authorization kit, government deadline tracking, certificate file opened from the start.
